Day 34. February 6, 2016. STEP TWO: REINTRODUCTION Day 4
5:45 AM. Nice to sleep in! 2 cups of black coffee.
Whole30 Observation and Reintroduction: Yesterday I was kind of on the fence about a couple of things, but I finally decided that today I will reintroduce non-gluten grains. I’ve had some oats, I’m thinking rice with lunch and corn with dinner. Jane and I did buy some Teff yesterday, so Jane has been all over Pinterest looking for some good Teff recipes. Pinterest (pronounced pin-trest and not pin-ter-est, I stand corrected and I digress simultaneously. Multi-tasking. Sweet! wherewasI?) More on the Teff later, I guess… Jane is still on the slow-roll for reintroduction.
12:00 PM. Back home after a major grocery haul. Feeling OK (so far) from the oatmeal this morning. Had an Apple Pie Lärabar for a snack on the drive back home. Pretty tasty but kinda $$$ when they are not on sale.
12:30 PM. Lunch. Had a leftover roasted chicken leg-thigh piece with some corn. Gotta love some non-gluten grains. Normally, I really like corn, but the combination of 1. Anticipation, and 2. This particular brand and style kind of left me with a “meh” attitude towards the corn. Lots of pepper, almost went for the hot sauce. Chicken was good, though:
Next adventure: Off to WinCo. This place has all kinds of hidden gems. Bulk bins are always cool. Also got a lead from their website on a couple of deli-type items that may be compliant. We shall see…
4:00 PM. Back home. Said deli items were a total bust. I’m not mad, though. We were going there anyway.
So the inside not necessarily ‘joke’ about Whole30 is spending your weekends shopping for or prepping meals. So Jane, who is capable of multi-tasking, is making ground beef hash for the coming weeks breakfast, and assembling kebabs for dinner. I, on the other hand, am making Pico de Gallo for the coming week:

6:30 PM. Dinner. Chicken kebabs and beef kebabs with chimichurri. Mine was served over a bed of rice, Jane had riced cauliflower with hers:
Needless to say, it was delicious! I also got reprimanded for going a little crazy with the chimichurri, so I’m not allowed to have any more with the leftovers. We’ll see about that…
Whole30 Observation: So far, it doesn’t seem like the oats, corn or corn chips, or rice have bothered me. There’s always tomorrow and the day after to see if there’s any effect.
Ended up having a little dessert. 4 dates halves with almond butter and a couple halves with coconut manna. And a double-shot of espresso to wash it down.
10:00 PM or 11:00 PM or ? PM. Bed. Bedtime is kind of up in the air tonight. Our son has a school event tonight – the kids call it “Sadies”. Back in the day we called it “Sadie Hawkins” or the “Backwards Dance” – the girl asks the boy to the dance. Anyway, I get to retrieve him after the shindig. Jane is up super early to volunteer with C5 at the Heaven Can Wait clinic. There will be (an estimated) 100 patients tomorrow.
